Soulful Sunday: Songs of September

Happy September, y’all!

September is one of my favorite months. First because I love fall and secondly, it’s my birthday month (I will be showing up and showing out, by the way!).

Other things I love about September:

  • Fashion Month
  • Season premieres of my favorite television shows
  • Back-To-School pics (I have no children of my own, so I love seeing how excited my little cousin and children of friends are on the first day of school
  • A reason to play “September” by Earth, Wind, and Fire

My sister and I call that our birthday song since both of our birthdays are in September. Once it plays, we just dance and dance. The Elements were so brilliant by writing a song about the greatest month of the whole year (biased, I know).

(Get into those costumes, y’all)

But there is another song related to the month by R&B singer, Deborah Cox, that I absolutely adore. From her 1998 album One Wish, “September” is a smooth tune about the day she fell in love:

The day I fell in love,
It was so beautiful,
His hands, his tender touch
I remember the day in September
When we fell in love…843d7d896e09d74ee3aaed68e10b42df856259600222053833.jpg

Not only am I looking forward to my birthday and the start of the fall season, I am looking forward to other blessings that may be in store for me this month. So tell me, what are some things that you associate with September and what are you looking forward to this month?
